Dijon's "Good Luck" Pulls at the Heartstrings and Soothes the Soul

Dijon, the 26-year-old singer, songwriter, producer, musical savant, continues to impress with his latest track, "Good Luck." Whether it be indie, indie R&B, bedroom soul, or whatever other label one could construct for him, Dijon consistently makes quality music that transcends genres. With vocal layers that shine with a sense of warmth and production that challenges the norm, Dijon is changing the industry.

His latest album, Sci Fi 1, showcased his ability to release a project full of variety and wonder. Today, following this album and his previous single "Magic Loop," we have "Good Luck." With a more ballad type of approach, Dijon sincerely delivers a message to a former lover. Through the medium of heart-wrenching vocals, Dijon sends off a final goodbye and a bit of reflection, signaling the true close of a relationship.

The message is delivered in a very minimal manner; all of the backing is done by a few soft piano chords and the overall run time is only a minute and fifteen seconds. This allows for the message to be overtly clear and serve as a kind send-off.   The lyrics are delivered rather directly, almost as if written in a letter. With no refrain, no chorus, simply a pouring out of emotion, Dijon has captured a pure, honest, and lovely message in less than two minutes.

Despite finding so much beauty in the track's theme and brevity, Dijon's vocal performance and the track's arrangement are outstanding. Dijon reaches into a lower register initially, delivering a warm and round vocal performance that soothes the heart. However, he then transitions into a heart-wrenching falsetto that impresses time and time again. The vocal layering and crescendo to the track's climax drive the song to its emotional tugging of the soul.

With jaw-dropping vocals and a story to tell each and every time, Dijon hits the nail and is truly paving his own way. "Good Luck" represents all this and more.
